Reviews from the Small Screen (Dec. 3, 2013)

Here’s what we’ve been watching on television.

An Adventure in Space and Time

  • Excerpt: Mark Gatiss treats the legends of Doctor Who’s creation as only a longtime fan can, in a lovely tribute full of the exasperated acceptance that rose-tinted hindsight brings.

Ben Kendrick @ Screen Rant

  • Excerpt: An engaging docudrama for ‘Doctor Who’ fans and non-fans alike.

Doctor Who: “The Day of the Doctor”

Edwin Davies @ A Mighty Fine Blog

  • Excerpt: Considering that the special is billed as a spectacular commemoration of the series, it is interesting just how prepared Moffat et al. are to let it be melancholic. Each post-revival version of The Doctor has been grappling with grief and trauma over what he has done, with some being more pronounced (Eccleston) than others (Smith), but this is one of the few instances in which the show has tackled this aspect of the character head on.

  • Excerpt: I’ve been hard on Steven Moffat during his tenure as showrunner. But he got it right here. He got it really, really right.
