- Excerpt: It is a little strange, but then I’m also getting used to the fact that I’m now close to the age that John Ford and Howard Hawks were when I met them! Which is a bit… off-putting, frankly.

Elementary: Seed Money
Rick Aragon @ Rick’s Cafe Texan
- Excerpt: On the whole, Seed Money does what it does well: present us with a case that takes turns both unexpected and unsurprising, gives us great moments of humor, and gives us a cliffhanger for a two-part story.
Elementary: The Eternity Injection
Rick Aragon @ Rick’s Cafe Texan
- Excerpt: At times, this Elementary episode played a bit like a Law & Order episode to me, but on the whole, it was pretty good, if not great.

Everybody Calm Down About HBO’s ‘Sesame Street’ Deal
- Excerpt: The immediate must-see factor of these new episodes is being just a touch overstated; it’s not like four-year-olds are getting on Twitter and spoiling new episodes of Sesame Street like it’s Game of Thrones, or that they’ll likely even notice the lag for those 35 episodes, given that there are — and this not an exaggeration — thousands more. I watch Sesame Street with my two-year-old, and I can assure you that she gives (and forgive me for using language I’m doing a surprisingly good job of curbing around her) not one half of a fuck whether the episode she’s watching is new or old, as long as Elmo or Abby is in it.
The Mystery Dance: “Zero Effect” and Bill Pullman’s Finest Hour
A Requiem for Columbia House, the Original Spotify
- Excerpt: Columbia House was a key enabler for those of us who, increasingly atypically, are collectors of physical media.
‘Straight Outta Compton’ Is Only a “Surprise Hit” If You Aren’t Paying Attention
- Excerpt: The fact of the matter is, expressing anything resembling shock at the stellar performance of a minority-focused motion picture merely betrays a painful ignorance of the audience that actually goes to the movies.
Tuesdays With Oscar: 1951
Rick Aragon @ Rick’s Cafe Texan
- Excerpt: The 24th Academy Awards certainly knew a good thing when they saw it. That is why when given the choice between two of the greatest dramas of the year, they chose a musical as the Best Picture of the year.
Tuesdays With Oscar: 1952
Rick Aragon @ Rick’s Cafe Texan
- Excerpt: Never let it be said that for the 25th Academy Awards, the Oscars gave the public what it wanted: genuine stunners. Suffice it to say even then, the choice wasn’t looked on with particular warmth, and now with more than half a century to look back on, we still wonder…seriously, The Greatest Show on Earth?
