Decorado
Laura Clifford @ Reeling Reviews
- Excerpt: the filmmaker has so overstuffed his plot…that he loses it. Have we watched this depressing ‘toon for 95 minutes to come away with a message that life sucks so make the best of it?
- Excerpt: A cartoon for the depressed and unemployed that evokes sweetness and existential absurdity alike.

Amrum
Laura Clifford @ Reeling Reviews
- Excerpt: Akin, whose oeuvre usually focuses on the Turkish immigrant experience, embraces his mentor’s memories as an adventurous, if extremely ideological, coming of age tale, coaxing a natural performance from his young star and creating a living, breathing community with his talented ensemble.
The Ascent
Matt Oakes @ Silver Screen Riot
- Excerpt: Both gripping and inspirational, ‘The Ascent’ proves to be a documentary worth its salt as it tracks a mountaineer with no legs’ attempt to scale one of the world’s largest peaks.
Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft – The Tour Live in 3D
Alex Bentley @ CultureMap Dallas
- Excerpt: The draw of the film is the use of Cameron’s beloved 3D technology, which he has employed in each of the three Avatar films. Unlike in those films, where the 3D has the odd effect of making the visuals too realistic for their own good, the technique brings an intimacy to the large-scale show that underscores the unique bond the singer has with her supporters.
- Excerpt: There may not be a sequin in sight, no choreography with spangled dancing girls, very few digital effects and just two back-up singers, simply dressed in polo shirts and pleated skirts. But Eilish is in control of every detail including meticulously staged lighting effects, a floating platform (reassuringly, she is tethered to it), and bursts of flame.
Matt Oakes @ Silver Screen Riot
- Excerpt: Even the presence of James Cameron behind the camera and Billie Eilish belting her heart out cannot turn this filmed arena tour experience into anything more than blatant fan service with bad sound design dominated by shrieking fans.
Everybody Loves Sohrab Handa
Kathy Gibson @ Access Bollywood
Free to All: Salt Along the Tongue
Maitland McDonagh @ maitlandonmovies.substack.com [English]
The Friend’s House Is Here
Matt Oakes @ Silver Screen Riot
- Excerpt: An atmospheric, character-rich glimpse into Iran’s defiant art underground, ‘The Friend’s House is Here‘ mostly rewards patient viewers, even as its third-act drift tests their endurance.
Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice
Dan Stalcup @ The Goods: Film Reviews
- Excerpt: Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice is the pleasant surprise of the year for me so far.
Pretty Lethal
Dan Stalcup @ The Goods: Film Reviews
- Excerpt: This progression into genre violence is captured nicely in those white practice tutus the girls are forced into early in the movie, which get progressively dirtier, bloodier, and more shredded as the carnage piles up.
Queen of Chess
Gregory Carlson @ southpawfilmworks.net
Remarkably Bright Creatures
- Excerpt: Remarkably Bright Creatures is a touching journey between two unlikely people (and an octopus) finding their ways in a world that has been hard on them.
Sebastian Zavala @ Loud and Clear Reviews [Spanish]
- Excerpt: Remarkably Bright Creatures is a remarkably sincere drama about a young man, an old woman, and an even older octopus.
Roommates
Dan Stalcup @ The Goods: Film Reviews
- Excerpt: The movie is, ultimately, a baffling exercise of escalation and push-your-luck social indignities.
Seized
Dennis Schwartz @ dennisschwartzreviews
- Excerpt: Poignant political documentary on freedom of speech.
Serpent’s Path
Laura Clifford @ Reeling Reviews
- Excerpt: Kurosawa’s film is made even more twisted by his bizarre tonal shifts, the actions of the yakuza and the two men hunting them almost comical at times despite the seriously despicable nature of the crime driving the action.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
Dan Stalcup @ The Goods: Film Reviews
- Excerpt: The animation is the reason any of this works, and it’s a real leap. This is by a massive margin the best-rendered Illumination film to date.
Tu Yaa Main
Kathy Gibson @ Access Bollywood
2025 Films
Calle Malaga
Bavner Donaldo @ Cinejour [Indonesian]
- Excerpt: Calle Málaga is an elegant and defiant portrait of aging, showcasing the beauty of Tangier alongside the complex mother-daughter relationship that transcends cultural boundaries.
Megadoc
Dan Stalcup @ The Goods: Film Reviews
- Excerpt: Megadoc is ultimately more of an excellent DVD bonus feature than a worthy film in its own right.
