ABOUT MARY ANN BRUSSAT
Mary Ann Brussat has been recommending movies to a diverse audience for five decades. In addition to weekly reviews published on her website, she publishes an annual list of 45 films that we consider the “Most Spiritually Literate” of the year. These are movies that “speak to our condition” (a Quaker phrase), reveal new possibilities for our lives, knock down barriers between people, and evoke our compassion. She is the author of two books, Spiritual Literacy and Spiritual Rx, in which she frequently uses movies to illustrate spiritual “takes” on everyday experience. We also prepare “Values & Visions” Discussion Guides for film clubs. After 46 years of living and working in New York City, shed moved in September 2015 to Claremont, California, where, through a new Center for Spirituality & Practice, she hopes to be training a new generation of film reviewers while continuing the work on the website.
