  • Lifetime Achievement Awards
  • Special Achievement Awards
  • Best Non-U.S. Releases

These special awards are handed out in conjunction with the annual awards but are handled under special rules documented in this section.

Special Awards Committee. Each year, the Governing Committee shall call for volunteers to sit on a committee that will manage the execution of all Special Awards except the Technical Achievement Award. The committee will convene twice during the year.

  1. The Governing Committee will call for volunteers for the Special Awards committee and the Best Non-U.S. Feature jury on October 1 of each year.
  2. The committee and jury shall convene no later than October 15 of each year.
  3. Jury members must demonstrate an active involvement in viewing eligible films and/or a firm understanding of contemporary international cinema in order to participate (i.e. attending an international film festival and/or film market).
  4. On October 1, the committee shall submit to the membership a request for submissions for the Lifetime Achievement and Special Achievement Awards.
  5. Members may submit as many suggestions as they see fit. These suggestions must meet the rules laid out under Rule Six, Sections 5 and 6. These submissions will be due by October 31.
  6. On November 1, the committee shall reconvene to consider the submissions, verify they meet the necessary requirements, and then narrow the list further to a manageable number. The committee shall select a maximum number of achievements out of all submissions based on the rules set out for them.
  7. This committee and its membership may not be altered except under extreme circumstances prior to the new committee being selected in the year following its formation.

Technical Achievement Awards. These awards are presented to individual technical achievements for a single film that are not otherwise honored by awards, this can include makeup, sound design, original song, stunt coordination, or any other similar achievement.

  1. During the Nominations Voting Period, members may submit up to three individual technical achievements for consideration. These will include only the nature of the achievement (sound design, makeup, stunt coordination, etc.) and the film being nominated. Individuals should not be included.
  2. In order for an achievement to be considered, it must be submitted by no fewer than three members.
  3. During the Awards Voting Period, a list of all recommendations will be presented and each member will be asked to select no more than five individual achievements. These will be ranked in order of preference assigning points as prescribed in the table in Rule Four, Section 7.
  4. The five achievements receiving the highest number of points will be announced as winners. In case of a tie, there may be no more than seven and no fewer than three achievements selected. If there should still be a tie, the achievement or achievements with the most individual list placements will be selected.
  5. Participation in voting for this category is mandatory.

Lifetime Achievement Awards. These special achievement awards are adjudicated by the Special Awards Committee, which shall be convened as laid out under Rule Six, Section 1.
