- Excerpt: Leisurely almost to a fault, “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” is a talk-heavy movie that gets away with it largely due to a cast of THOSE BRITS who shine at making talk sound good. Based on a novel by Deborah Moggach, the movie actually feels like a book, with its ensemble cast of characters and deliberate, if languid pace. But this is a story that at least makes you want to turn the page.

- Excerpt: If Carl from “Up” bumped into ‘Shirley Valentine’; if John Madden echoed his artful juggle from “Shakespeare in Love” — oh, wait, he did…

- Excerpt: Age has a way of molding our perspective on life. Years spent moving through the machinations of mundane activities come into stark focus as we look back at our mistakes and regrets in hopes of finding a way to live the remainder of our days in comfort and satisfaction. While some are blessed to have few regrets about their estimable lives, many others don’t have that satisfaction.

- Excerpt: If only it had embraced the substance of its story (most importantly its themes of “outsourcing retirement”) rather than merely glossing over it, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel might have been something very special indeed. Instead, it’s merely a mildly entertaining time-passer that will mostly please fans of the actors, who will no doubt find plenty to like behind its charming facade.
