Here’s what we’ve been watching on television.
All in the Family: The Complete Series
- Excerpt: Adapted by the influential Norman Lear from the British comedy series “Till Death Us Do Part”, “All in the Family” truly captures and reflects the generational clash and change that marked America at the time.
Boardwalk Empire – Season 3 Episode 2 – Spaghetti and Coffee
- Excerpt: A modestly paced episode puts several pivotal characters on the slow boil, setting up some major conflict ahead this year.

Doctor Who: “The Angels Take Manhattan”
- Excerpt: Even before I saw The Angels Take Manhattan, I worried that this story simply had too much for its running time. You had the farewell of the Williamses, the return of the Weeping Angels, AND the reemergence of River Song, and all to be done within an hour. After having watched, I can say it’s strong on atmosphere, short on everything else.
Edwin Davies @ A Mighty Fine Blog
- Excerpt: When Steven Moffat took over the show following the departure of Russell T. Davies, Amy acted as both the new companion and as a way of introducing version of the show, a version heavy on fairytale imagery and a grander meta-narrative indelibly tied into the story of a little girl waiting for a man in a blue box to come and take her away. That resolution reached its natural and welcome catharsis here, but the way in which everything worked so well in this episode highlighted just how problematic the ones leading up to it have been.
- Excerpt: All good things come to an end as we bid farewell to the Doctor for a few months, and a permanent farewell to some beloved characters. Beware: spoilers ahead, sweetie.

- Excerpt: I’m really astonished at how little advantage Steven Moffat took of a fantastic opportunity to capture the Doctor in an amazing place like New York City…
Elementary
Rick Aragon @ Rick’s Cafe Texan
- Excerpt: The fact that Elementary addresses Holmes’ addiction (although I don’t think cocaine was mentioned), had Captain Tobias Gregson, AND brought in the bees all show that the series will draw inspiration from Conan Doyle and winks to Holmesians.
Jeff Dunham: Minding the Monsters
- Excerpt: Minding the Monsters is kind of fascinating as a showcase of one man’s politically incorrect views and insecurities posing as comedy.
