Here’s what we’ve been watching on television.
Bored to Death: The Complete Third Season
- Excerpt: I’m sad to see “Bored to Death” go. Though The Complete Third Season of HBO’s literary comedy was a mite sillier than the two seasons that had come before, there is a familiar groove to how the characters get on with one another and the peculiarities of series creator and writer Jonathan Ames’ way of portraying the world that always made it good fun to watch.
Doctor Who: Dinosaurs on a Spaceship
- Excerpt: Dinosaurs On A Spaceship reminds me of something my mother said about Cowboys and Aliens: you knew just by the title that it’s going to be stupid.
Edwin Davies @ A Mighty Fine Blog
- Excerpt: In an episode that was already kind of packed with ideas and events, it seemed weird to just cram Nefertiti in there as well. Whilst her playful sparing with the sexist walking innuendo Riddell was funny, it felt like a distraction within an already pretty distracted episode.
MaryAnn Johanson @ FlickFilosopher.com
- Excerpt: Oh, I love this. Not just the wonderfulness of this episode, but that I can unreservedly love a Doctor Who again. That feels so good.
Fringe: Season Four Blu-ray Review
The Great Gatsby
Rick Aragon @ Rick’s Cafe Texan
- Excerpt: In particular Paul Rudd’s performance lifts the project, and whatever missteps it takes are made up for by his dramatic turn, of which I hope there will be more of in the future.
Hammer House of Horror
Peter Nellhaus @ Coffee Coffee and more Coffee
- Excerpt: Actually, the most shocking aspect of this television series is how much nudity was featured.
Once Upon a Time: The Complete First Season
- Excerpt: The company bearing Walt Disney’s name has added to its fairy tale tradition in one of the biggest ways it can, with this major dramatic network television series contributing to a wave of fairy tale revisionism.
