Pre-2017 Film Reviews
Desert Fury
Peter Nellhaus @ Coffee, Coffee and more Coffee [1947]
- Excerpt: I usually don’t gush over the digital conversion of older films, but Desert Fury had me with the first close-up of Lizabeth Scott and her liquid red lips in glorious, old-fashioned Technicolor. Setting aside the story and any other concerns, one glimpse of those lips is enough justification for why blu-ray was invented.
The Godfather (1972) / The Godfather Part II (1974) / The Godfather Part III (1990)
Roderick Heath @ Film Freedonia [1972]
- Excerpt: Amidst the darkness, warm hues, fleshy tones, bright and colourful electric lights, intimate places. The Godfather’s universe is a place of safe abodes from savagery, where the barbarians are ever at the gate.
Of Fathers and Sons
Bev Questad @ It’s Just Movies [2016]
- Excerpt: This film is the most unsettling and bold choice for the Academy to allow in its list of nominees. It’s a keen look at the mind of an al-Qaeda leader and a dire warning of an unending resistance to western cultural influence.
