Pre-2020 Film Reviews
A2 (2001)
Panagiotis Kotzathanasis @ Asian Movie Pulse
- Excerpt: “A2” is an excellent movie, highlighting Mori’s directorial abilities as much as the fact that he knows his subject, while the rather interesting topic is bound to still draw in people who are interested in Aum, and also the concept of the cult as a whole.
The Cheese and the Worms (2005)
Panagiotis Kotzathanasis @ Asian Movie Pulse
- Excerpt: “The Cheese and the Worms” is not exactly a bad film, and its realism, sentiment, and video-chronicle approach work quite well on occasion. However, in the end, and particularly nowadays, it has also lost its urgency almost completely, resulting in a title that essentially addresses only extreme film buffs.
The Devil’s Stairway (1964)

Spiritual Kung Fu (1978)
Panagiotis Kotzathanasis @ Asian Movie Pulse
- Excerpt: “Spiritual Kung Fu”, is by no means a good film. At the same time, however, the buffoonery, the silliness and the action sequences, definitely make it worthy of the title of cult.
Storytellers (2013)
Panagiotis Kotzathanasis @ Asian Movie Pulse
- Excerpt: “Storytellers” is an important film, particularly considering its context, purpose, and overall cinematic artistry. At the same time, though, it is too long, and essentially addresses a very specific audience that is doubtful if it can be found outside of Japan at all.
Who Will Write Our History (2018)
Dennis Schwartz @ Dennis Schwartz Reviews
- Excerpt: An emotionally moving, sobering and exhausting Holocaust documentary.
