Obviously everyone knows the news by now that director Tony Scott has committed suicide.
He certainly did have a distinct style and, while he wasn't a critical darling, I think he made more than his fair share of entertaining films. Among them, Crimson Tide and True Romance stand out to me. His work with Tom Cruise probably helped make the actor into a star, too, with Top Gun and Days of Thunder proving to be big hits.
Scott said of The Taking of Pelham 123, his remake of the 1974 Joseph Sargent flick, that he "wanted the movie to grab you." He may not have accomplished that in the most profound of senses, but his style was energetic.
RIP Tony Scott.
