Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat have been recommending movies to a diverse audience for five decades. In addition to weekly reviews published on our website, we publish an annual list of 45 films that we consider the “Most Spiritually Literate” of the year. These are movies that “speak to our condition” (a Quaker phrase), reveal new possibilities for our lives, knock down barriers between people, and evoke our compassion. We are the authors of two books, Spiritual Literacy and Spiritual Rx, in which we frequently use movies to illustrate spiritual “takes” on everyday experience. We also prepare “Values & Visions” Discussion Guides for film clubs.

After 46 years of living and working in New York City, we moved in September 2015 to Claremont, California, where, through a new Center for Spirituality & Practice, we hope to be training a new generation of film reviewers while continuing the work on the website.
