Automatic log-in to forums doesn't work for me

As stated in the title. Checking the box marked "log me in automatically each time I visit" has no effect; I have to re-enter my username and password each time I visit. Of course if I'm not logged in I can't see the "members only" board. I know at least one other person mentioned this issue in another thread.

I'm not sure why it won't keep you persistently logged in. I don't have the problem with my installation on my site, so I have no idea...
